Dometric
In response to planned obsolescence and maximalism, we created a speculative collection of subscription-based furniture designed to minimize waste and excess by providing the bare essentials for life.
Made in collaboration with Skye Ray, 2015
Each square on this grid represents 1 day of your life. The highlighted boxes are days in which you’d receive new objects. There are more boxes toward the beginning of your life as you’re growing and accruing.
The subscription would include all objects necessary throughout life. This would eliminate unnecessary purchases, manufacturing, clutter, etc.
This is the first item you receive with the subscription. Like everything else in the collection, it is matte black — void of trend and ornamentation.
It can be easily assembled and disassembled for shipping and storage between generations.
Materials: Ash, merino wool, nylon para-chord, black paint
Throughout the collection, color is reserved for things which hold significant emotional value. Family members, for example, are represented by “Auras” composed of colors which are frequently occurring in their photos.
The Aura Quilt is made with the new subscriber’s family member’s auras to help with association. The Endimals are felt toys shaped like various animals which are currently endangered or extinct.
Materials: Printed cotton, wool felt
An organizational system designed to follow you throughout life.
Materials: Poplar, black paint, and black nylon fabric
